My Story

Raising money for BEN Automotive.

Boston was tough but nice to complete the original city marathon, in its 128th edition (!) - yes, since 1897, taking inspiration from the Olympic Event the previous year.

It's my last competitive race effort, although I will run again if I can secure a place for Tokyo, but without a time in mind.

I was happy this time with a 3:17 in what were 20 degree heat conditions. This was my 14th and I've completed five of the six Majors now, with just Tokyo remaining. I've been lucky enough to compete in the Age Group World Championships in Chicago, and have been to some fantastic events both in the UK and across the world - all very different.

I'm effectively retiring from running for time now. And it feels good to make this choice. I want to help the next generation of runners, and those who have committed to do this for the first time. So many reasons, so many great stories. I'm lucky to have had this journey, and to have shared in those of others.

Thank you for supporting me, BEN, Macmillan, Kidney Research and other charities over the years; and most recently in Boston.

  • London 2000 - the bucket-list “one-off”
  • Newton Abbot 2010 - 17th overall
  • Berlin 2012 - first sub-3 hour
  • Amsterdam 2013 - 1st British M40
  • Loch Ness 2014 - 4th overall M40
  • New York 2014 - 1st British M40
  • Newton Abbot 2015 - 1st place overall (2:44 PB)
  • Newton Abbot 2016 - 1st place overall
  • Newton Abbot 2017 - 2nd place overall
  • London 2022 - comeback sub-3
  • Richmond 2022 - for fun
  • Ravenna 2022 - Chicago qualifier
  • Chicago 2023 - Age Group World Champs
  • Boston 2024 - 25th / 125 total (British M50)

I've been so lucky to have done this with so much support - thank you! Over and out.
