Why don’t men talk about mental health?
Chris Jenks
My Story
Men often find it difficult to discuss mental health due to societal expectations and stereotypes. These pressures can make it challenging for them to admit vulnerability or seek help, fearing judgment or ridicule. My own experience of leaving the army after 12 years of service and multiple operational tours, trying to adjust to civilian life in the motor industry left me dealing with a mental health crisis that I was unprepared for and completely unequipped to deal with. I witnessed several of my peers turning to drink and, sadly to suicide.
The motor trade is a demanding industry, often characterized by long hours, high-pressure environments, and the constant threat of job insecurity. These factors can have a profound impact on the mental health of those working within the sector.
By contributing to our cause, you are making a difference in the lives of countless individuals who are working tirelessly to keep our roads safe. Together, we can drive change and ensure that mental health is a top priority in the motor trade.
I will be taking part in the Longmynd Hike, running 50 miles/10,000 feet in 24 hours to raise funds for this cause.
